English Tutor
Susan is a “local” having been born, raised and educated in Taree. She completed her tertiary studies at the University of Newcastle where she graduated with a BA Dip. Ed. Since then she has taught in a number of schools in the public school system specialising in English at all levels. Susan has also taught in Western Australia and did a two-year stint in rural Kenya for Australian Volunteers Abroad where the incredible importance of education to these children has left a lasting impression.
After having had her own publishers’ representative business for ten years Susan decided to leave Sydney and the commercial world and move to Coffs Harbour where she returned to teaching. What followed were five years working with children with special needs which was great fun and very satisfying.
Then a move to Coffs Harbour High School where she taught English and became involved with the literary programs for migrant children. After ten years at CHHS it was time to make way for the younger generation and Susan retired in 2024.
During her twenty years’ experience Susan has seen many changes but for her the fundamentals of teaching have remained the same — to inspire in children the desire to explore and appreciate language in all its forms. Happily, for her, Serendipity Learning offered Susan the opportunity to continue finding pleasure in teaching now on an individual basis.
