Greta Gaut

Mathematics Teacher

Greta is an experienced and enthusiastic teacher who lives in Casino and works in Lismore NSW. She discovered Serendipity Learning through her daughter, Alleyne, who also has ties to Serendipity Learning. Greta has many academic interests including Mathematics, Science, Theology and Gramar, but her favourite subject to teach is Mathematics – partly because it often gets a bad rep and she loves to help improve that reputation and partly because there are so many beautiful and relaxing patterns in Mathematics!

Greta became a teacher a bit later in life because she wanted to help students who faced social inequity or who didn’t have access to the resources they needed if they were to unlock their learning potential. What began with volunteering to help local students when her own kids were in primary school has been a journey of discovering how to support learners from different backgrounds and with a breadth of learning needs. She has experience supporting High Potential (gifted) students, those with Maths Anxiety and students with a variety of Neurodiverse profiles as well as twice (and even thrice) exceptional students.

Outside of school, Greta has many passions and hobbies which include woodworking, chain sawing, learning to play the drums & piano, playing brass instruments and her recorders, baking, sewing, building, landscaping and drinking coffee, …just to name a few! She can find a way to include Mathematics in any pursuit and models the joy of learning. Born in the USA, she has an accent but is proudly Australian and has lived in Australia since moving to Wee Waa, NSW as a teenager in 1985.
