Mathematics Tutor
Alley is studying a higher doctorate degree at the University of New South Wales which has taken her away from the sunny beaches of Coffs Harbour in 2025. Her love for Serendipity and joy in her students’ ‘light-bulb moments’ has resulted in her continuing to tutor local students online.
With experience across Stage 4 (Yrs 7&8) and Stage 5 (Yrs 9&10) mathematics as well as HSC courses – Standard Mathematics through to Mathematics Extension 2 – Alley supports students throughout high school to build confidence in both the theory and application of mathematics.
While Alley’s educational focus is mathematics, she is a firm believer in equipping students with skills across all key learning domains. The skills of ‘how to learn’ and ‘how to study’ are not always covered by the high school syllabus, these include creating feasible study plans, establishing effective study habits, accurately interpreting marking criteria, and developing individual exam technique. Mastering these skills along with learning to have fun with mathematics are cornerstones of Alley’s teaching.
She knows every student has a different learning style and works with each of her students to develop learning routines that work for them. Alley is experienced in working with students of various learning needs including students who are gifted, have specific learning disabilities, and/or neurodevelopmental conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
In her spare time you will find Alley reading, painting or enjoying a coffee with her friends. You may also find her adding to her extensive repertoire of random but occasionally useful facts and skills – this Mathematician is unexpectedly accomplished in martial arts, quilting and tractor driving. By the way, did you know pineapples are considered a type of berry?
